DON'T DO THIS! Forgot it was a Kenwood

Unican_Eric

Pioneerious Collecticus
I was playing around with a few different receivers today and they all had the tunning knob on the upper right side like most receivers. So my wife is getting ready for work and like I usually do, I lie down on the bed and we chat a bit while she does her thing. I have a Kenwood 5400 right beside my bed and so I go to change the station to a further one up the dial. I grab the tunning knob and give her a spin. I jumped 6 feet in the air I tell you my little minimus 7s never had that much juice in their life put through them. If anybody knows the Kenwood KR5400 it has the volume knob where the tunning knob should be. I am lucky my little 7s survived with no damage. So remember guys......Do not do this at home!!

Excellent advice... sounds like something I'd do! :D

It happened to me once - my cat jumped to catch a mosquito and, while being grabbed back by gravity, turned the volume knob of my preamp all the way up...

My Janszen 'stats survived, my ears too but not the knob: I ran to turn the volume down and did that with so much energy that I passed the "0" stopper of the pot - bang, broken, dead :(
Spare parts still were available then so the preamp survived and so did my space cat survive the following moment of f)=/'§ anger :D

Several years ago I bought a Fisher Receiver when I hooked it up I ran the sound from my TV through it. The problem happened when I was watching a movie on my VCR and wanted to fast forward, of course while I was holding down the fast forward on the remote the sound was muted so I didn't notice that the volume knob on the 150 watt Fisher was going up too. When the VCR settled down and the sound unmuted, that's when it happened......Took the tweeters out of my Altec's...so bad you could smell them.....

Cats?

Wow, the 2nd cat story in the last week. Vintagestereo had one the other day. Seems like we have some talented cats here. I guess I'd better keep my daughters Siamese away from my newly acquired Marantz 4270 and Celestion speakers. No telling what might happen. :)

Probably use the Celestions' grille cloth as a scratching post, JH. Gotta use something!

J.H.,

My cat was also extremely agile at ruining the multicables that came and went between the elements of my studio rig. After the third time it was getting a little expensive, too.
He is now much older and at last feels at peace with the elements, whether vegetal or electronical :)

Cats are adorable creatures. My cat used to jump up on the computer desk then put his paws on my shoulders, I would scoop up his behind with my arm and he would sleep half on my chest and the other on my shoulder. I typed many a message here with one hand. He had to be put down about 2 months ago after 13 years. I still miss him.

Sorry about your loss, Eric.
I know when that day comes I'll have a real hard time for a long time.

That's always a bummer, Eric. Putting down our four-legged friends is always difficult. You need to get another one, if you haven't already.

Thanks axel, and I hope that day for you does not come for a long time.

Just to let you know bully, I still have 2 left, ones just a regular tabby and the other is a long haired orange, I call him my little lion.

Same concept, different event.

Back when ball joint kitchen sinks were a new thing. New to me at least. I came home drunk and grabbed the handle and lifted it up. It was stiff, but what the hell.
I ripped the damn faucet half out of the sink.

Some things simply should NOT be messed with....or "improved" upon.

Sorry, I couldn't work a cat into the story. But there WAS a dog... my ex-wife.

Just a weird word or two on feline fatality.

Used to live with a cat named TC. He had to move on to three different owners but I always catsat for him whenever possible. Eventually he succumbed to stomach cancer but nobody wanted to tell me until he was gone.

The day I found out, strange things started happening at my apartment.

A rabbit that had been sitting outside the apartment for at least four hours in the exact same spot tried to run into the apartment. Just like TC used to do.

When I walked out of my room for a moment, piles of papers would mysteriously be scattered about when I returned.

After a week of this, I started getting a little weirded out. Then things went from generic weird to "doo-dee-doo-doo, doo-dee-doo-doo" Twilight Zone Rod Serling *WEIRD*

I was showering Friday morning and while drying off, I suddenly realized that the bathroom light was off. I stared at the light and thought "Y'know, I'm sure I turned the light on..."

Just as my half-awake brain mumbled the word "on" the light suddenly turned on. I nearly fell backwards into the bathtub. I had a feeling TC was behind it but it was just a guess. Months later, I was chatting with one of his last owners and she told me how he would shut off the lights on you in the bathroom for attention. When I told her about the shower encounter, she shrieked.

I had a cat for about 14 years. She was a used cat, given to me by a redhead centerfold model. Dickens (the cat) died from mouth cancer about a year ago. Fortunately she didn't seem to be in a lot of pain, and could still eat OK if I mashed up soft food for her. One day she did take a major turn for the worst, so I had to take her in for the "last mile". My son (then 10) wanted to come along, so I warned him about what would happen. I think that seeing me hold my dear kitty in her last minutes helped him a few months later when his rat (Licorice, because she licked him) died from old age. This rat was real snuggly with my son, and always wanted him to play with her, so they were pretty attached. He was right there holding her in her last hour, which seemed to comfort her.

I have since had another cat take a liking to me. She can't take the place of Dickens, but she is pretty special in her way, so we are getting pretty attached.

I found out how to get kittens out of a speaker. Crank it up, and they find that bass port real fast! Not to worry, I didn't crank it up much, as I figured it might sound pretty loud when you're inside with the sound... Them speakers is gettin' some hardware cloth on them real soon now.

Scout

just as i clicked this thread my beautiful black cat, Scout, jumped up purring. is sittting right next to me and is a real sweetheart. has never once jumped on a piece of audio, i tought her to fetch, and she has never clawed furniture or speaker cloth. she comes and lays on my chest til i fall asleep and then goes off to hunt bugs! by the way, i saved her as a kitten from a dumptster. :D
