Don't you just love it when you know more than your tree guy?

This morning the dead tree "was" about 80 ft tall. No objects to hit, except another tree. A nice very healthy 80 ft tree.
So I says, ain't the dead tree gonna hit the branches on the good tree if you make that pie cut like that?
He says, nope.
So, I ask, is your insurance goanna cover that 10,000 tree?
He says, yep, but we ain't goona need it.
The insurance adjuster will be here tomorrow.

Sorry you hired an unskilled tree butcher and not a tree expert. A lot of people make that mistake...one time.

It's pretty hard to repair the healthy tree, unless you have 30-40 years.

No fixing this tree. It took out the entire bottom half of one side. It's in the back corner of a three-acre lot. I will take the tree down.
It was going to be pay a lot of money, pay this guy, or do it myself. I was well aware the tree might hit the other tree. But I have been thought this before with rent houses and know how it plays out. It's going to pay about 7k on this tree, plus another $700 to drop the tree, dig the stump out and haul all of it off.
This tree I'll drop myself now that it's in the clear, and dig the stump with my backhoe, then burn all of it.
It would have been nice to have the dead tree dropped in the drop zone. But after it's all said and done and the monies in the bank, I'm not going to miss the good tree one bit. There are 28 oak trees on this property.

Is your tree guy still your tree guy, or are going to get a different tree guy to replace this tree guy for future tree work?
I think I'd stay with this tree guy since he now knows how things are and should be.

Funniest reply, that I've yet read here on AK. Congrats - and thanks for the good laugh.

I don't know. He instantly became difficult to communicate with.
That and the only other tree that will need work barring a storm or lightning is in close proximity to the driveway. It will need some cabling. Can't use him for that.

Next time its tight, get Cut N Go or similar crane saw to take it down. I had a 34" diameter black walnut growing 10 feet from a garage and they limbed it without dropping a limb. Amazing equipment.

And, while I was looking up what bit of wonder that @Bill S has suggested, I came upon this gnarly beast; an iron cutting, hydraulic chainsaw!

my day, and this thread highjackin', are now complete.

I've got a stand of Eucalyptus just waiting to be firewood. But, its enormously far beyond my capability. And, its in a location that no one but a chainsaw crew can get to. So, we're gonna have a guy flying around on ropes with a chainsaw in the near future.
