ALOHA!
I thought fellow Jazz Aficionados would enjoy reading this article from Downbeat Magazine Online;
"Jazz on Television in 1965"
The article was written in 1965 and outlines a meteoric burst of Jazz that was commercially broadcast the last few weeks of 1964 and the first few months of 1965. The fact that Carson is mentioned championing some of the Televised Jazz is no surprise. I can even remember in the late 80's he still had great Jazz artists on his show that would Jam with the Tonight Show Band.
Much of the rest did surprise me. I'll have to see how much of this I can find on Youtube. Especially the Cronkite "Band on Tour" special and the Regis Philbin interviews.
