What kind of music do you usually listen to when you are doing a trip, or stuck in a traffic jam, or simply going out in the night and you just need to get relaxed all the way?

When I first started a VA to MD commute, I was listening to the Stooges "Funhouse" sessions. 28 takes of "Loose" in a row is NOT relaxing.

Bad idea.
 
How does one "relax" on a 137 mile round trip commute to work?
It didn't matter what music I played.
I couldn't hear it over my own cursing anyway?

Last spring during the kids' spring break, I was driving my daughter up to spend some time with my parents. I live in the DC area and they live in NJ. The traffic on 95 that night was even more hellish than usual, and I soon had a migraine to top it off. After several hours of this my daughter fell asleep in the back, and finally at the 495/295/NJ Turnpike split the traffic died down. I kind of randomly tuned in the jazz station in Phillie, and after a while Miles Davis' "All Blues" came on the radio. My migraine got better, and I just totally got into that tune like I'd never done before. The combination of the traffic going away along with the migraine, the city lights of Phillie, the prospect of a few days off with my parents...it made the tune just magical.

A few weeks later I was at a community attic sale, and found an original mono pressing of Kind of Blue for a buck. Now when I listen to All Blues, it means something special to me.
