Drum problem solved, but now I have hiss

Yesterday I was here discussing how my setup was making me lose a lot on the high-end.

Well, it turns out once I cut USB out of my equation that problem was solved. Now I'm running my turntable through my ART USB Phono Plus, but I'm using the line-out on it and hooking it up to my computer that way. Sounds much better.

Now I notice the hiss more though. It's like white noise. It's very quiet, I only really notice it on quiet songs when I have headphones on, but it's irksome. Any ideas? I don't think the problem is the preamp itself, it might be a connection issue. Here's an audio sample of the noise, blown up by about 1000%. I know it's still very quiet, even when amplified like that, but I can totally hear it when I lilsten to some of my quieter recordings. And I like Tangerine Dream, so that's a a problem.

It's definitely NOT a turntable issue. if I unplug my turntable from the pre-amp it actually gets worse.

My guess is that you're dancing with two issues here.

One the USB function on your preamp has the high frequency roll-off / clipping issue in your other thread.

Second is that your Computer's sound card/chip inherently has a lot of hissy noise when using the line-in.

I'm going to have to say that if you want to continue to hook it up to your computer (you'll have to look into a better (quieter, doesn't clip etc.) ADC -- Audio to Digital Converter
