DSD 256-capable DAC. Is it worth the effort ?

I have an Oppo UDP-205 which is "my current SOTA" for digital playback. It appears I would have to pay beaucoup bucks for a multichannel DSD256 DAC (e.g. Exesound) to improve upon the Oppo playback. Not to mention the price premium for DSD256 downloads.

Given the limited selection of DSD 256 recordings available for purchase, why would I even consider an "upgrade" (?) ? I have not heard much, if any, difference between DSD 64 and DSD 128 playback of the rather limited samples I currently have.

[EDIT: I am still using a multichannel analog preamp whose sound quality I doubt I could ever replace with a decently priced Pre/Pro or AVR]

Unless you are morbidly curious, forget it. I've been down that road. I also have some native DSD256 recordings. Anyone who says they can tell the difference between such recordings and those converted to lower DSD rates using good conversion software (or even hi-res PCM) is utterly full of it.
