DT-510 timer

Well, I had a "space" that was bugging me above my EQ and below the CT-F750:

It just looked...unfinished.

A little measuring and then a little googling and it turns out a DT-510 is just the right size. Its even a silverface and fluoroscan match for the CT-F750.

After watching ebay for a while, eventually a decently clean looking example showed up:

So I looked the other way and hit "buy it now". I probably paid too much for a "space filler" and something that will be basically just a clock.

It was $155 Cdn with taxes+shipping - shipping was more than I paid for the 510 alone.

But you just don't see this type of stuff showing up around here, so it was pay up or don't get one.

At least it will look nice in that opening.

I suppose I can always plug the EQ and Cassette into the two AC plugs on the back of it and free up one of the wall plug sockets.

I think I might also swap out that red power LED on the EQ for a blue one, even though it's not a pioneer EQ. That's a pretty simple task and might as well make it all match.

I don’t know? I think it was a good purchase. Reason enough for me.

Timer showed up today and slid it into the empty spot:

Nice. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Its quite a light piece, so it “slides” when you push the switches. A little plastic “stick on” bracket on the top of the EQ case will fix that. That sounds like a job for the 3d printer…;)

It needs a good cleaning and the rear outlet switch is a bit intermittent on whether it latches or not, but it just came off the truck and is super cold right now. It seems to be getting better as it warms up.

Still, I’ll open it and clean lubricate whatever I can.

The money I spent seems less a problem now….lol!

Pulled the cases apart and gave everything a good IPA wipe down. The few messy spots cleaned up nicely. Switches had a bit of nicotine/tar staining or maybe just finger dirt. Likely just "finger grime" because there's no other indications this was used by a smoker.

Figured out why the timer and outlet switches were sticking. If you look very closely at one corner, you can tell it's been dropped or bumped there. This caused the front face to shift slightly on the chassis screws and caused the switches to bind in their opening. Once removed for cleaning and reinstalled, all the switches work smoothly. Easy fix.

Nice. I love those things. (I think I have 4 or 5.) My only complaint is that most modern equipment uses a polarized plug, and those have non-polarized jacks. So you can't plug anything modern in. I'm contemplating changing the jacks and cord.

No worries for me.

Pretty much everything I have is "vintage" and what isn't is "wall wart" powered (IE: non polarized).

:)

That's one of the nice uses for these things. Those wallwarts always use a bit of power. (Tiny, I know.) But the timer allows you to turn them completely off.

Put a little 3m double sided trim tape on the dt-510 feet and lined it up with the face of the EQ:

Push those buttons as hard as you want now, its ain’t even gonna twitch!

Makes it feel more like a quality piece, the same as most older pioneer gear feels.

As a small side bonus, it raised it up a smidge so now theres an even visual “break” line between the two components. Small thing, but makes for a nice visual change.

I’m a little surprise they put hard plastic feet on such a light piece and not a softer, “grippier” rubber like material. I would have been frustrated all to heck trying to use it as it was.

I like your record dividers!
