Dual 1005

Recently acquired a Nordmende Isabella 58 console for $30 that was basically going to be a credenza to put my gear on. I'm blown away by this thing. Tube radio sounds awesome and the MCM design suits my house well. Problem is that it has a Dual 1005 turntable (I guess that's not really a problem !) and I am in way over my head with this thing. It appears to be in really good shape, but the Start/Stop mechanism has a mind of its own and the idler wheel doesn't seem to want to contact the inside of the platter. I've read everything that I can on the 1003/1004/1005 documents from the Library on VE and am stumped. Does anyone know someone who works on these regularly? Thx.

You could try the Dual forum on vinylengine. There is at least one true expert on there (Klaus aka Dualcan) who used to work for Dual. My understanding is Dual didn't really break through into modern turntable tech until the 1009 model. I'm not sure if the 1005 is worth fighting with, unless you're really into mono records and 78s.

Charles. thanks for the reply. I posted the same as above on the VE forum under Dual about a month ago and nothing but crickets. This series is really quite remarkable as far as the mechanics (of course mine doesn't work. lol). I did notice that the Dual world does pretty much start at 1009. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. If nothing else, and I really am dying for 78's through the tubes, I'll throw an old BSR deck in there and call it a day. Ah, but I have other priorities right now.
