DUAL 1009 MOTOR WORKS BUT IT DOES NOT SPIN

Hello all, I just purchased a Dual 1009 turntable which worked good for a bout 15 minutes but now it does not work. I took the spinning plate and the motor works. There is a small rubber disk that turns only when I push it to the motor shaft, I am assuming this is what makes the "turn table spin" the arm will only move when I push the turn table disc to spin but it stops after a few seconds. Any suggestions?

That is an idler wheel changer. I strongly suggest you visit vinylengine.com, register (it's free) and download the service manual before taking anything apart. I always find those things a Rube Goldberg nightmare to work on.

I understand what he is trying to say. Answer is that the grease has hardened and is preventing the parts from moving properly.

Try tapping the bottom of the motor with the fat end of a screwdriver. Funny, but it can reseat the bearings sometimes.

1009’s are good tables and worth the effort. Love mine!

That rubber disc can need lubrication on its mounting shaft and also the arm on which that pivots. I have posted about it before though it was on other Dual models.

Download the SM from VinylEngine as others have said. You may be able to find a new idler wheel on eBay. You should probably go through the table to ensure it’s working properly.

I read this as the table bogs down and stops when the auto start function is used. The arm stops part way and continues if you spin the platter by hand?

Either way, listen to the man and clean all that dried lube out and apply new lube.

Sounds like one needs cleaning, lubrication, and a rebuilt idler wheel, I think. Getting rid of a lot of old lubrication and redoing it where necessary with correct where called for in the service manual is essential. Remember the oldest of this model were built some 55 years ago in 1964.

Listen to Seth (notransistors) dry grease will keep the wheel from engaging properly to the motor. Always good get the Service Manual as suggested above.
