Dual 1009 needs repair in NYC... Anyone?

Hi everyone,

I have a Dual 1009 turntable that would probably needs an expert to bring it back to life... It does turn on and spin, but is pretty far from working correctly, I guess pretty much everything needs to be serviced. It also needs a stylus but I do have the original cartridge. However it looks pretty nice for its age and I would really like to fix it myself, but I don't really know where to begin without experience or documentation.

So I was wondering, is there anybody here based in NYC who would like to take a look and either guide me or repair it?
Or, if you know a good reliable repair shop in NYC, feel free to let me know.

Thanks,

-Mat

If you are interested in fixing yourself there a lot of knowledgeable AK members that will help out with info.

First do an AK google search for as much info as you can find. Then when you've learned a bit about what may need to be done you could start a thread of your own to get more specific suggestions.

I have two 1009s and they are worth the effort.

Good luck! :thmbsp:

Contact AKer NoTransistors, he is in Brooklyn. Very straight up Dual technician who does legendary work. Definitely the man.

Depending where in nyc you are, Cosmophonic Audio on 85th and 1st is a great shop.

And I'll second the diy thought, with help from the board.

I have just turned on the computer for the first time in over a week.

For days, I tried to convince my G.F. to pack up her Jeep with the dog and birds and abandon ship. She lives opposite an inlet of the Atlantic.
Can you spell "NO?"

She calls me at high tide and states that the water is just below the top step from the bottom level. There are only two levels.
So I get into my precious MINT 2004 GTO and run to her house. Get within four blocks, drive into a 12" deep salt water puddle, and the engine sucks in sea water.
Walk towards her house, and two or three blocks short of it, the water is up to my nipples.
To make a long story short: I walked back to the main street, found a few firemen, and begged for help.
They could do nothing.
Then they got a hold of a fellow fireman in scuba gear. Tied a rope to the fire engine and the other end to him.

This guy swam to G.F.s house [one block], knocked on her door, and told her who sent him, as well as told her that the water was receeding.

So this was one f**ked-up week.

Now, please go and hug a fireman. Show him the appreciation he deserves.

Her house is strong and still standing, but her Jeep and all contents of basement are ruined.

I am renting a car out-of-pocket, and waiting for insurance to help pay for my GTO.

I will certainly help MatMat.

Thank you Bobaloniny for the recommendation.

Thanks to all of you for your advice!

I am still considering doing it myself, but I figured I would also look for options and advice. Since there are experts out there, maybe I can hire someone to do it better than I would. As a newbie it's just hard to evaluate how much work will be necessary.

NoTransistors... wow I'm sorry to hear you had such a terrible week. Good luck to you and your gf. I feel lucky to be in central Brooklyn and that there were no floodings here.
Anyway, thanks for offering to help me. How should we proceed? Would you like to see pictures of the table and components, ask me questions that would help evaluate the situation? Or do you want to take a look at it in person? I'm in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, BK.
Let me know, thanks!
