Dual 1009 vs. Dual 1209

Hi,
I'm new to audio karma and was hoping to get some help. I am looking at the Dual 1209 and the Dual 1009 locally. They both seem to be in great condition, but before I go look at them and hear them, I'm curious about what things to look for, which is "better", etc. Interested to hear any and all thoughts/opinions. I'm not that knowledgeable about turntables, but have done a fair amount of reading online. Thanks!

There were 5 variations of the 1009 - some better than others. Those machines are now over 55 years old. The 1209 is from 1969, and that's the one that I would take. No matter which one you pick, it will need to be fully cleaned and serviced to operate properly.

As Bill mentioned above, you will want to make sure that everything works and functions as expected. Sometimes the connections between the cartridge slide and top of the headshell get dirty, which cause the sound to drop out of one channel.

Watching YouTube videos on the table might also help see the different functions of the tables.

The 1009 is worth having if the original model from 1964, with the heavier platter. 1209 is excellent, but the first of the 1200 family Duals, and it and the 1218 are my favorite small chassis 1200 family Duals. I like the Dual 1009 original model, and the Dual 1019 the best of all Duals (I enjoy my 1019 a lot currently)

Enjoy your 1219. Once serviced it will run a long time. My 1219 pictured <<, was serviced by me in 2014. The only thing I’ve done is cartridge swap. Have a second one. An early one. Serviced 6 yrs ago. Put a BEST sled on it with a Shure M91ED. Have two 1019 I fixed up too. Good sounding but married to 1219s three all totaled. Welcome to AK,

Yes, shouldn’t have to do anything to it for at least 10-15 years. I have 2 1219s myself.
