Dual 1019 cartridge and stylus question

Snr

New Member
Hey all- I'm brand new at all this but been researching a bit.

Just got a Dual 1019, it's been rewired recently and all, and I'm aware of how the headshell and contacts can be iffy, but I've yet to check that out on mine. However, my question is about the cartridge and stylus. It came with the Shure m9ie hi-fi cartridge but no stylus. I haven't tested it yet so I may need to get a new cartridge as well.

Question: What is a good stylus for this cartridge/ is it worth it to keep it OR If I get a new cartridge altogether what's a good affordable cartridge and stylus pair? Thanks!

lmao i think i just answered my own question on what styli might go w the original cartridge but still! i do want advice on if it's worth it to keep and/or what new pairing you'd recommend

All you need do is search that cartridge online. You will see how well liked it is.

Dual and Shure had a long standing relationship.

You say yours is M91E - does it have a black stylus grip?

I have a M91E on my 1019, and I like it a lot. Your cheapest option is to buy a replacement stylus online. If you are in Canada, I can give you a contact in Toronto.

Mix a bit of epoxy glue and slather it across the contacts on the removable shell where they are presently each secured by the smallest bit of melted-down plastic. Or get a new shell from Best Audio in California. He molds his stuff. Everyone has trouble with the factory headshell.

Just did one like Seth suggested. The contacts get loose with age. I glue and let it sit overnight. Clean contacts with silver polish. I gently move the contacts out to make a better connection. Gently. Or buy a new one. Done both. Got an extra for my 1219.
