Dual 1019 in a 1968 Console

Greetings All,

I have learned a lot from the knowledgeable posters on the AK forums and I am always willing to learn more. So, any comments or suggestions are appreciated. My in-laws moved from their home of 50 years recently and gave me this:



Not crazy about the styling but it's a very nice setup. Of course, I am happy to have it. Don't know much about Dual TTs. Know a little (not much though!) about these which are the TTs I use regularly :



But, back to the subject at hand. This Dual is in very nice shape and was used gently all those years. My wife says that she wasn't allowed near it which is funny since my brothers and sisters were encouraged to use our dad's Miracord Studio 10 and boy did we abuse that thing! Anyway, appears to need the typical attention that they all do. Tarnished headshell contacts, dried grease, spindle rubber shot, etc.The Stanton cart (model?) is located in the headshell with a plastic clip (no screws!) which slides fore and aft slightly. That can't be good. Never seen a rig like that before, so I am going to try to find some hardware and install a Shure V15 II I have until I can figure out what cart model this is and if there is anything worthwhile in the way of replacement styli.

got a few more pics, need to add another post....looking forward to getting this old idler back up to snuff, any suggestions for servicing or comments on the cart, stylus, or headshell hardware are appreciated....

That's a Stanton 681EE, which was the earliest version of the 680/681 family. It was introduced around 1967 or '68, so it makes sense to find it on there. If you remove the stylus, you will see a little sticker that says "681" on the front of the body.

The round dot on the stylus indicates that it has a conical tip.

I've gotten a couple of Duals that way. A few years back they would pop up at church sales and free off of CL when I first started snooping on there. Getting the turntables out and in a base (plinth) was easy enough. The 1009 stuff cleans up pretty easy and is less annoying to fix than the 1219 stuff. They had a shure cart set up on one that used springs and slid out. You can mount a regular cart in those holders though.

The down side was before Mad Men, NOBODY wanted a console, and less hip styles are not easy to move along. I listed them for free, but no one wanted them hooked up for CD or whatever. Eventually I had to smash the dang things down and haul the wood to the dump.

thanks beatcomber, yep, found the little sticker right where you said it would be, have to do some research on a stylus for the 681EE

eb2jim, yeah not crazy about the looks of this console but the outlaws bought it new so I am going to keep it intact while I can..........
