Dual 1019 tonearm won't float

I picked up a working Dual 1019 recently. I replaced the stylus then tried to adjust tracking force. The tonearm doesn't float at 0 tracking force. By that I mean it sticks in whatever position I leave it in. I can use the TT by setting tracking force to overcome the friction but that doesn't seem like a good long term solution. The tonearm pivot appears to need to need to be cleaned and lubricated. Any guidelines or advice on how the tonearm pivot point is cleaned and lubricated before I start just takin' it apart.

I'm not sure if you are saying the bearings are tight or that you cant get the weight right to statically balance the arm. if its bearings download the service manual from vinyl engine before you try to service anything. if you're trying to balance the arm the counter weight slides in & out of the back & is locked down by the thumbscrew on the side. set the weight to 0 & adjust the weight so it balances level. adjust the anti-skate to .5 & the arm should float on its own from the spindle back to the tonearm rest. then you can set the vtf for your cart.
 
Sounds like it just needs a good cleaning and lubrication. We have yet to see one that gunned up that it doesn't move freely but I'm sure it's possible. Here are pictures of the parts you will be looking to clean.

looked up the manual in Vinyl Engine per earlier recommendation. The VE manual part number 61 "bearing screw, long" is frozen. the other bearing screw can be turned. What is best procedure for freeing up stuck screw?

only the left bearing screw (38)is used for horizontal adjustment. read the top of the page on troubleshooting tonearm in the dual 1019 service manual.
 
I can adjust bearing screw (part 38). Should I just do that and leave well enough alone or should I try to free up screw (part 61) and clean/lubricate both bearings?
 
if adjusting screw 38 solved the problem, i would leave it. adjusting things that are unrelated can lead you down the rabbit hole & be very frustrating. it's a good idea to print the service manual and read through it a few times before you start repairs or adjustments. ( it can bee a little confusing at times.) the tonearm should move without restrictions or damage to your records & stylus WILL occur. best of luck
 
I know this thread is a bit old but I want to mention that you should not lubricate either the horizontal or vertical bearings. Just clean and adjust them which ludite indicated is done with the left bearing (38) only.

Dual doesn't call for any lubrication here and, generally, there should not be on any turntable as they will just collect dirt and cause friction problems in the future.

The forces on these bearing are really not ehough to cause any appreciable wear.
