Hello!
I have a Dual 1209 and am not getting any sound. I have a Sherwood RX1403 receiver and need 2 speakers, from which I understand need to be 8 ohm each. Any suggestions?
Receiver and turn table both work... I just am not getting any sound. Am I on the right track? No pun, well maybe pun intended :) Please, I appreciate any help. I just want to listen to all my great vinyls... nothing fancy just want to use it!
**Also in need of a dust cover if anyone knows of option to get? Thank you in advance!

Hi Joey!
Not quite sure, but I don't think the RX1403 reciever has the right kind of input (called "phono") for connecting a turntable which delivers a special kind of, and weaker signal than for example a cd player.
If Im right you will need a separate phono preamp (with riaa) between the Dual and the Sherwood).
If you search these forums for "phono preamp" you will find plenty of suggestions. Both good and cheap and really good and expensive.

According to a question/answer on the big retail site this receiver doesn't have a phono input. Your cart won't have enough input voltage to be useful on the Aux input. You'll need to find another receiver/amp that has a phono input or buy a phono preamplifier to drive into the Aux input. After that if you still have trouble check back and we'll move to the next issue.

What is “riaa”?
 
It almost sounds like you have no speakers connected to your receiver. Is this the case? If it is the case you most certainly won't get any sound no matter if you have a preamp or not. You need speakers to make sound in your type of setup.
 
Welcome to AK Joey. Sounds like you're on the right track. Hope the music's playing as soon as you get that phono preamp.
 
Good luck. The preamp should fix you right up. Lots of vintage speakers out there. Some are free. Got 1 AR4X from the landfill and Bob (wlhd1610) donated a second one. Have a Pr of Canadian built speakers I found free. Running all four on shop set. Free is good. Check local Savation Army and Goodwill. A while back an Aker sold me a nice Pr of small Advents. $100. Used them until the ARs showed up. Bundled them with an small Radio Shack receiver and a Sony CD player sold to a friend. Sounds good. Welcome!
