Dual 1214-1216 similarities?

Detailman

Addicted to tweaking
I'm working on a 1214 I've had in my garage for a long time and was just wondering if the 1214 and 1216 are pretty much identical.
I know the 1214 doesn't have anti skate dial but all other things look equal.

Biggest reason is I have the SM on the 1216 and can't get back to Vinyl engine to download the 1214 cause I've forgotten my log in info.
Their new rules about certain e-mail accounts will not let me get into the system.
I've been a member there for 3 or 4 years, maybe longer and just don't know my password.

If they are the same basic tables the SM will work for my purposes.:scratch2::scratch2:

1. Anti-skate - 1216 separately adjustable - 1214 adjusts with tracking force
2. Platter - 1216 4# - cast - 1214 3.5# stamped
3. Heavier counterbalance on 1216 - allows for more cart options

Other than that, they're the same. Made around 350,000 1216's and 1.5 mil 1214's.

Thanks Bohhey.
I did notice that the platter on the 14 is pretty heavy.
I made the mistake of taking the screws out from both sides of the tonearm mounting and the spring for force sort of let go and I'm having a hard time getting it back together.
It was a 240v model from overseas that seems to have been set to 120v.

Another member has offered to send the 1214 SM so that should help even more.

Take care.

Some units have a power supply with a switch - if the ID tag shows dual voltage, then you have the switch. If is shows only 220V, open the power supply box - there's a schematic inside the cover showing you how to wire it for 110 or 220v. As for the tonearm, you've opened a can of worms, I'm sorry to say.

Thanks for the honesty.
I'll get some good learning experience out of this one if nothing else.
My stash of tt's is overflowing now so I don't really need it for a player now.

One question though. Is the motor pulley supposed to run all the time when plugged in?
I had the platter off and even with the arm in the rest and the auto switch centered it was still spinning.
Normal?

Detailman, I just got a 1214 today and the tone arm moves around because the mounting plate with screw on the rear near the counterbalance came out. It is just sitting there but I looks like the only way to screw it back in is to remove the tone arm. But you said things went south fast after you did that. Do you have any recommendations that may help me?

As for your spinning problem and not going off. Check this link out. I have the same problem to and will give it a try.

My Problem

My trouble didn't start with removing the tonearm. If you follow instructions in SM it's not that difficult, just tedious.
Previously I had loosened the two bearing screws and let the spring loaded vtf adjustment get sprung.
I found the thing to watch out for is the ballbearings in the assembly when removing the arm.
It was a little over my head so I put it aside for the time being.

When I got my 1229, the motor and motor pulley ran anytime the machine was plugged in. After I thoroughly cleaned and relubed the gearing and linkages underneath, the motor shut-off started to work again.

My motor was very noisy, too, and I thought the motor might have been running so long that it had burned up the bearings, but Bohhey said it just needed cleaning and lubrication, which was correct.

Worms in your tonearm? A few catfish might take care of that. :)
