Dual 1215s - Help with vertical needle bearings

Hello again! So I've been having a grand time hunting down Dual turntables (first was a 1229q. We'll get around to that.) I found this 1215s in great condition, and after some minor trouble getting all the functions back to working order, I think she's done! The only thing I am unsure of is the tonearm. I needed to "remove" the arm itself to untwist some wires and screw a plate back down (up). After doing so, the arm doesn't snap back into its rest (I have to move it to the right like 1mm, and then I can lock it in) I should mention that I broke the setscrew 44, so now have to adjust it very carefully using locknut 45 (yeah, I know). Other than that it sounds fine, everything works, passes bearing test, etc.. So my question is what could cause the tonearm to not snap into rest? And also how do I know for sure my vertical bearings are set correctly for this arm? Thanks guys! I appreciate all the info y'all have compiled over the years.
