Dual 1216/1226

I have both of these machines in various states of disrepair. The 1216 doesn't seem to want to run at all, the 1226 won't shut off. The 1226 seems to have a somewhat better arm, the 1216 has 78 playback capability. The question is...am I going to have any luck transplanting the 1226's motor and arm assembly to the 1216? The 1226 might also have a somewhat heavier platter. If so, that would also be moved to the 1216 chassis.

Nothing interchanges. Not even the manual spindle. The stacker does, but that's it. I've always liked the 1216. It's construction is moore robust than the 1226 - less plastic to break.

Bill is the Dual guru for sure. I would tend to take his advice. On the other hand I bought a 1226 about 5 years ago for my bedroom system, and I really like it. Now I just need to pull the trigger on one of Bill's wooden bases for it...

I was just futzing around with these tonight. It seems like the motors do indeed interchange as long as the drive spindle is swapped between them. The 1216 spins now, and what's left of the 1226 is in the trash.

Somebody might want those parts.

They were listed in Barter Town for quite a while with zero responses. I pulled the arm and dismantled it, as I need the tube to repair a damaged AT770 portable turntable.

What kind of a base did the 1226 have? If it's wood I would give you a few bucks for it.

Between three Duals I only had two plinths, currently they're both in use.

Hi Sam,
I've recently posted about my recently acquired 1219, it too would not shut off - ended up being a simple fix.
Linkage just not delivering enough movement to dip the switch.
A minor tweak and lube - problem solved!
If this is the only problem with the 1226 might be worth exploring fixing this?

Cheers
Dave

Did you keep the cartridge carrier thingy? Those are usually in demand.

Yes, I've kept them so I can have a 33/45 cart and 78 cart mounted and ready to swap it with ease.

The 1226 spun fine but had more plastic parts and no 78 speed. The 1216's motor was burned up, but is a bit more robust in the construction department. Moving the 1226 motor was a no-brainer.

Nothing nothing? I need two parts for a 1216 - the on/off switch (for auto play - that's a cosmetic thing really) and a counter-weight. The centre of it is missing (bought used in that condition).

Any advice?

Thanks
