Hello everyone!
Thanks for all the great info on here, super helpful for fixing up old audio gear!
My question is this - How do you determine if a Dual tonearm has the dreaded the single/multi mechanism failure?
I am working on a 1219 that has a curious lateral friction especially in Multiplay position. I have cleaned the multi/single mechanism, and replaced the o-ring. The ball bearings are in place, and lubed. The arm easily, smoothly and firmly raises up and down and locks into single or multiplay position. On other machines i have worked on, replacing that ring and sometimes the balls if they are missing, has always freed the arm from any lateral friction. However on this machine, the arm remains slightly stiff unless you push the single/multi control just past single on the single setting. The friction is worse in Multi position. The singly multi mechanism does not look visibly damaged. Again, pushing the position selector just past where it clicks into single frees the arm.
I posted this at vinylengine too...
I have removed the dried grease from the automatic parts of the table mechanism... any suggestions?
Thanks!
