Hello everyone I have just required a dual 1219 tt that could use some tlc . It's in need of a good cleaning and lubbing . But my main concern is one of the stabilizers has gone threw the base any help would be greatly appreciated. Ps not just about the stabilizers but all tricks for reconditioning this player. Thank you for your time I really appreciate it.

Tim.

Hey Tim, everything you may need to know is likely contained within this guide, just take some time to read through it and you will likely discern if it's something you want to do:

https://www.commentreparer.com/doc/10232/DUAL-1219.pdf

Most will tell you it is a very worthy table, but depending on what all is wrong with it, you might be hard-pressed to find parts should some of the less readily available ones need replacement.....good luck though, and let us know how you do.

Thank you very much this looks like it could help me a lot. As far as the stabilizers do you know of any tricks? It's only the one it seems that the hole is larger than the foot of the stabilizer so it goes right threw . Unless of course the guide you gave me has this in it in witch case please just say read the link I sent you waterhead lol.

^^^:jump: OK, "waterhead....."

Tim, actually I don't remember that it goes into any detail about the stabilizers and the plinth, but that should be a pretty easy fix if you can fill the hole from the bottom with a wooden plug and set it with wood glue to the same level as the other three so your stabilizers will all be at the same height. You can find dowel rods of different sizes at Lowes or Home Depot, not sure what you will be needing but its worth a look....

Gotta say, I can't imagine how that might have happened????

Well I think I'll give it the old college try I really appreciate it. If I run into any other problems I'll be bugging you, you have more knowledge than I do . Then again that does not take much so I wouldn't get to excited lol.

Carry on, amigo.....holler back if you get lost, there's a lot of friendly, helpful folks here that know a lot more than I do about those old Duals so if you're patient and go very slowly you will likely be real happy with the outcome. Rule 1: don't break stuff!

Greetings,

I have a 1229 that was shipped with the base and the changer in one box instead of two boxes. The result was the wood base was broken on the left front corner. used bar clamps and glue it back together. It was ok for awhile. Then it the spring dropped through it on the left front side. Let it sit awhile as I had to have a 1019. Got back to the 1229 this week. Looked at the base on the left front side. The US distributor United Audio base are kind of crappy. Usually the piece that breaks on these are made of masonite. Mine was damaged when it broke. This week I noticed the piece with the circular hole had shifted. The turntable spring fell through that left hole. Check the opening for damage. Mine had a small break that made that hole bigger. Was able to slide it back making the round hole smaller. Glued with Elmers glue and let it sit. Looks like this will hold.

Have seen this on other Dual bases made by United Audio. The German built ones are much nicer. Have 2 1219s with German bases like the one in my avatar. I have taken 1/8 inch ply wood to support underneath that round hole to strengthen the masonite clamping then gluing. Then take a small piece of that plywood cutting it to make that hole smaller.

Once a 1219/1229 is serviced they will run a long time. My 1219 shown^ was a project back in 2014. Did have to clean and oil the motor after 4 yrs. since I did it one the second time it took 20 minutes. Have not done anything since. Did this one around a German built base and a very cool plexiglass and wood dust cover. Good luck!

Eric

Well looks like someone tried to fix the problem and know it's my problem lol . He used tac nails and wood glue so I'm going to attempt to remove it before I can replace fun fun:eek2:

Thank you Eric I really appreciate it I found that the guy I bought it from tried to put a piece of wood underneath to strengthen it . However this is now the spot that's giving me a problem but it does look to be an easy fix. Now my big problem is it looks like I'm missing some parts underneath.:no:

I bought my 1229 new then. After a few years I thought automatic players are uncool so I dismantled it, took the cam wheel away and made me a manual player..... As I have discovered turntables new I of course want to bring the old lady back to standard. I was able to get everything with the exception of the motor on German Ebay - for a very good price and in good condition. I really look forward to the work. Especially as I am a Master Craftsman for Consumer Electronics and have done that for a living in the past.

1019 / 1219 / 1229 are worth it.
