dual 1228 rehab

Inherited a 1228 from my father-in-law. Original owner, lightly used but never serviced. Cartridge is AT95. I will readjust everything and clean contacts with Deoxit. Question 1: given its age and that I want to keep it, should I send it out to DrDual or other Dual expert for a thorough lube and inspection. Or, if it functions OK, should I just clean the contacts and leave it alone?

Question 2: I doubt that the stylus has ever been replaced, so I plan on doing so. Is it worth going to the LP Gear or Jaco Shibata replacement stylus, or is this overkill for an old 1228? Will I be able to correctly adjust the TT for the Shibata needle? I don't have any experience in doing this.

Thanks for your help.

I can't speak to the AT cartridge, but I can share that I recently picked up a 1228 that as far as I know hasn't been serviced (got it for $20 at SA Store!) and it is functioning great. Came with a Shure M91ED and I upgraded the stylus to an LP Gear VividLine. It made a considerable positive difference. Good luck with yours.
