Dual 1229 auto start/stop not working stemming from another issue.

Eh, So to start off, I had my dual 1229 serviced a year ago and everything was working fine. Then this started happening.

So today I decided to take the unit off of the plinth and turn it over and see what i could find. I'm not a pro and I wasn't in a rush to call the guy who serviced it because I should have had some good years without any problems. I didn't adjust anything, I just put it back together and gave it a test run but now the auto start/stop isn't doing anything EXCEPT when I tilt the whole unit up about 45 degrees. Everything works just as it should, I don't have the original problem shown in the video. Keep in mind the tone arm is on lock and i'm just testing it that way. So, when I set it back down level the start stop lever is "locked" and won't move to start/stop positions. Recap when I raise the turntable about 45 degrees to see what is happening underneath everything works fine.

As for the original problem shown in the video, I have tried to do the cycle with the tonearm on lock. I have no problem working it manually but I'd like it to work as it should.

I would check that the trip pawl on the main cam (yellow gear) is not bent or stuck out of position. Although you had it serviced, double check the condition of the steuerpimpel. This doesn’t seem like an issue caused by a cracked adjustment collar (whatever it’s called), but check there’s not a split in the little black knob at the base of the tonearm.

That’s where I would start!

The cam seems to be best without lube because anything you put on it has a good chance of eventually migrating to the trip prawl. The trip prawl works best when dry and clean. Whether the tech was me or Bill or someone of lesser talent, you should not be hesitant to call.
Your lever does not work, but does auto arm return work?

Sorry for delay, I don’t think I ever saw your post. I was just revisiting my post and saw you replied.

yes the auto arm is working. I’m just finding it strange that the auto start works when I tilt it at a 45 degree angle but when it’s level it doesn’t engage.

It is doing that because the start lever, through a linkage of sorts, actually engages the copper trip prawl on the gear.
It is not pushung it far enough and when you tilt the unit, gravity intervenes to aid in this.
The copper piece can be bent slightly to better meet the lever.
And a question, When you hit START, does the piece about an inch from the lever slide into a latching position with its mating part?

Are you talking about the small latch that sits in the middle and moves to one side on start and the opposite for stop? That’s what I’ve been concentrating on and trying to figure out. It clicks in the notch only at the 45 degree. When level it moves to the start position but just doesn’t click in the notch.

If it does not latch when lever is rotated to START, there is an adjustment and I am at a loss on how to explain it.
Also the spring eeds to be present and the metal bar the spring moves needs to be in proper place on locating dowels. I hate this long distance stuff.

How about I send you $25 for a video conference and you can walk me trough it. I feel like it could be a simple fix but I just haven’t been able to narrow it down where the adjustments need to be.

I will not and never have accepted money for a few phone calls.
PM me for my phone number, although I think that everyone here already has access to it through my FB business page.
Are you at least in North America?
