Dual 1229 current market value

Hello all,

I've been looking around eBay and Craigslist for the going price of a Dual 1229 and the numbers seem all over the place. My Dual has been professionally restored (by Bill at fixmydual) so it runs flawlessly as it should. I know the cartridge also affects the price and mine has a Shure V15 Type II with a new needle (less than 5 hours of "playtime"). The plinth it sits in is nothing special, it's a tall "box plinth" and the dust over has only minor scratches..no cracks or anything like that. I won't be able to upload pictures until later as I am at work right now.

So what do you all think it's worth?

Sad to say, but probably less than you spent on Bill's work and the stylus.
You probably will get top dollar by selling the 1229 and the V15 separately. Outfit the 1229 with some mundane cartridge so it is plug and play.

Getting more than $250 for one is pretty tough these days.

That was another question I forgot to ask as to whether it would be worth it to split the cartridge and the turntable up. So if I split them up and put a basic cartridge in the Dual what do you think each item (shure V15 and TT) would be worth separately?

Seems like the cartridge should be worth at least $100. If I put it on eBay with a buy-it-now, I'd go higher.

Yep. I've sold untested bodies w/o a stylus for $80

FWIW, you'll make faster, easier money on the cart and certainly spend a LOT less time packing it...

The table can go for anywhere between $75 to $200 depending who's looking when you sell it...:dunno:
