Dual 1229 Intermittent Noise, Video Included

I have a Dual 1229 turntable that I've owned for around 13 years. Admittedly I have not had it serviced enough, but it's been a very solid workhorse with hardly any issues.

The other day I noticed a noise, which I assumed was the motor. See YouTube video links below. I ordered a replacement motor from eBay which the seller said was quiet. Seller is reputable with 100% positive feedback. Unfortunately after swapping in the new motor I have the same noise. It seems to me that the new motor is not the culprit, although I think it could still be a possibility.
  • Noise happens with idler wheel in contact with the pulley and with idler wheel pulled off the pulley.
  • Noise happens with platter on and off, but it's intermittent.
  • Noise happens with pulley on shaft and removed from shaft.
Here are the things I've tried so far:
  • Oiled old motor with fine oil from the Dual lube kit I have
  • Oiled new motor prior to install and then installed
  • Cleaned pulley
  • Cleaned detent plate and bearing under speed selector and added new grease from Dual lube kit
  • Cleaned other various parts of the idler wheel assembly and added new grease / oil
I'm okay with rebuilding one of my motors, especially since I now have two of them. But it would be absolutely maddening to rebuild, install, and then have the same noise. Any ideas are most welcome. Thank you.

@NoTransistors Ok if I pick your brain on this one? Wondering if the noise in my videos points more to idler wheel assembly or motor bearings, or perhaps it’s not possible to diagnose from the noise alone. Anyway, any feedback or advice would be great. I’m leaning toward doing a rebuild on one of the motors. Thank you.
 
I just watched parts of 12voltvids service video and am coming to the conclusion this is in fact motor noise. I have my old motor apart and ready for fresh oil. If this is the case the motor I ordered on eBay is just as dried out as my old one. I'll keep posting status updates in case this is helpful for anyone else in the future. Getting the motor apart was difficult but just took some patience and a set of busted separation plier tips. :)

And no shade, because overall the 12voltvids tear down video is extremely helpful, but there are several things he does that are not recommended in the more in-depth guides by Dualcan and others.
 
Loose magnetic ring on the rotor of the motor. Clean and fix it with according glue. I would use 2 components epoxy glue. And service the motor, best using Dualcan´s how-to at vinylengine.com.
 
You have TWO problems.
The motor, which you will be attending to, and the gear. Look at the logic here. A noise occurs with motor spinning and platter off. And a very similar noise occurs with platter installed and power off and spinning by hand.
Gear is not parked.

Thank you. The noise actually isn’t present with power off and manually rotating the platter. Does that point to motor alone? I have the motor service complete, just need to find the time to install after kids are in bed. :)
 
One of the videos has you manually spinning platter after the Dual shuts off.
When you do this, the noise begins again.
Clear as day. Why are you contradicting your own video? I watched afain and again to be sure.

Oh, I see, I just rewatched the video in full. I did not recall the noise from when I recorded the video, I checked it manually before posting the above reply and didn’t hear anything. Anyway, I’ll double check the gear too. Thanks.
 
Actually, just tried it again by hand. I think the noise in the video is the chassis rocking in the plinth. Those videos I took amplified all the noise. Entirely possible it’s the gear, I am new to this.
 
I was over thinking this, it turned out to be the motor. Split the motor, added fresh oil and it's as quiet as new.
