Dual 1229 needle drop issue.

Ok so when 12" is selected, and I turn the lever to start, the arm lifts out of its rest as it should it then moves over to the record and when it slowly lowers the needle to the vinyl it will sometimes hitch at the last second and the needle misses the record or hits the record and falls off. Any ideas on how to fix?

Also, I still have a slight 2mm platter rise and fall wobble. It doesn't affect sound as far as I can tell, but it annoys me? Any easy fixes? The platter itself is level FYI.

Thanks.

The armfall position needs adjusting. There's a little screw for it. Hopefully Mr Flasher ^^ can help you.

The adjustment screw is easy to adjust (if you have a small screw driver to slide down the hole to it). I'm assuming the PM mentioned above told you where to find it. But the "hitch" you mentioned could indicate that the plate underneath that the steuerpimpel pushes against might need to be cleaned. Dirt, oils (even fingerprints) there can affect smoothness of tonearm travel. Every Dual owner must eventually learn about and learn to love steuerpimpelland. It's a rite of passage.

Very common irritating issue. When the arm does a little dance upon lowering, and then misses the target, sometimes loosening the tension screw on the control arm [just a bit] does the trick. Sometimes that plus a new, differently-designed clutch tip works. Also, the tip always needs to be lubed a bit with any grease that is not a destroyer od rubber or plastic.

Platter warped? Find another or pay a machine shop to cut the top.

also maybe clean the arm and the cue arm? grease and anti-skate setting will pull arm towards the outside.
too much resistance in the arm bearings would cause not enough resistance on the cue arm to keep it from moving outward.

I forgot to mention that the fluted sleeve on the cue lift tube needs to be adjusted as follows- While the unit is in cycle, stop it and see if there is a bit of vertical play in the arm. If snug, then lower the cue lift pin a bit by screwing the sleeve downward just a bit.
