Dual 1229 - Speed too fast

I just acquired a Dual 1229 at an estate sale that's in pretty great condition, and have de- and re-lubed it pretty well, and it works great! The big issue is the speed - set at 33, it plays everything too fast. When the idler/pulley are set correctly, so the idler contacts the pulley close to the middle of each speed position, it is WAY too fast. I tried changing the speed by adjusting the set screw on the motor pulley, but even when the pulley's as low as it can go - so low that the idler is only touching the very top edge - it's still slightly too fast.

Does this sound familiar to any experts? Is this possibly something that could be caused by having a euro spec motor/pulley? I have to admit I don't really understand how that works, so if anyone can explain I'd appreciate it. This 1229 version has no separate ground connection (just 2 RCAs) and a switchable 110/220 motor.

It sounds like you have the 50 cycle pulley on there for use with European voltage. You've got to get the 60 cycle version for it to run at the proper speed. Check ebay or perhaps an AK member has a spare pulley sitting around that they can hook you up with. The same pulley is used on many different models, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. The part number for the 60 cycle pulley is 218 276.

The 1229 is a great table, Dual's best idler drive effort.

You nailed it - a 50 Hz pulley is installed. PM me for A 60 Hz one.
