Dual 1229 turntable - arm will not lift in multi position - but the service manual makes no sense to me

I am working on a Dual 1229 for a friend. Looked to be in very good condition. Original box, all the doo-dads. But it's turning into a nightmare. I've worked on lots of Duals before including 1229's but it appears this one has been tinkered with ALL OVER and it's all out of wack. The controls and sticky stuff that are usually the problem on this one are in great condition. as is the motor etc, but the tone arm movement is a nighmare. Probably 15 hours on it already and total frustration.

Here's the issue as stated in the service manual (yes i have it). Dual 1229 turntable "tonearm doesn't raise from the tone arm rest with mode selector in the "multi" position." Service manual makes NO sense on this. "Adjust the equalizing arm on the eccentric piece of the protecting plate so that with the main lever pushed down the balance place sits a minimum of .6 - .8mm on the lift bolt.........

What eccentric piece? Not obvious to me.

And this is just ONE of the many maladjustments this unit has.

This is tricky. I have scrutinized the German manual. The protecting plate (Schutzschild in German) obviously is the No. 233. There then should be the possibility to adjust the equalizing arm (210) so that the lift bolt (206) sits as described at the balance late.

Thank you. You have solved it. Sorry for my poor ability to decipher even the Dual 1229 Service Manual. There is a screw on the "protecting plate" #233 which on many/most Duals is simply appears to be a protecting wall for the tone arm and an attachment point for the anti-skating springs. On the 1229 there is also a screw on there which can be loosened to allow a black plastic bracket to be moved up or down and adjust the sliver colored floor around the base of the tone arm mechanism up and down and thus adjust the ability of the "lifting bolt" to get in position when the tone arm is in the raised position . That enables the cueing mechanism to work properly engaging the "balance plate" and raise the tone arm. See the photos below. You can consult the service manual to see the actual "lifting bolt" and "balance plate." I just had no clue from the manual WHAT to adjust to affect them.

Thank you for this thorough answer. I have serviced dozends of Dual in my life (and have to fully reconstruct my own 1229 soon because of own stupidity some decades ago when I was young ...) but I had never to adjust this item. Dual manuals are tricky.
