Dual 1229Q/Pioneer PL-L55

Hey guys -- this is my first post on audiokarma, but i've monitored the site for several months.

I was given a Pioneer PL-L55 and I really like it, but I've heard mixed things about linear drive turntables. I have a Dual 1229Q available near me for $220, would it be worth the money to invest in that turntable, or should i stick with the Pioneer? I can't find any information on the Pioneer table anywhere, so I have no idea how much its worth or what the quality of it is.

I have learned a lot lately about direct drive and linear track turntables vs my Dual's. I have four and have worked on many. For $220 it should be minty with no issues! The linear is full of electronics. Have a Kenwood on the bench right now. Loads of electronics! The Dual's of this vintage including the 1229Q is all mechanical! The price is a little high. Picked up a 1219 last fall for $100. Needed the cue regreased and new needle. It lives in my friends local record store. What kind of cartridge is on it? The 1219 in my avatar <<< came with a Shure V15 type II. All for $65. It may be a little high. You should get a1229, maybe not this one.

PS welcome to the forumn. I have four Dual's. A 1010S, like my first Dual from hi school. A 1229, 1219, and a belt drive 601. I like the sound of all of them. Look at some of the posts here on AK. The big following for Dual's are the 1219 and the earlier 1019. One AKer, Notransistors, who repairs Dual's. Really likes the 1219 vs a 1229. Better arms. He swapped arm on them. Then, swapped back. I work on Dual, but his talent goes waaaay beyond my skills! Read up on them. I have a 1229 and I really like it. Once gone over, I have not needed to do anything to any of mine.
