I am trying to get my Dual 1229 Q restored to working order. I purchased it off EBay from a single owner. I was cosmetically flawless. I sent out to a guy that kept it for a long time. When I complained, he sent me a turntable that looked like mine, but it had scratches and had problems that my initial Turntable did not have. The table worked but the grease had gotten thick and paste like. The cue did not set down slowly either. I got my first Dual Turn Table in 1971. I know a little more than most about the table and the way they are suppose to work. When I have an agreement for everything a serviceman ask, I hope to get what I agreed for. Well, I did not! When I asked him to pay shipping back to him and to correct the problem, he took it back to correct. The second time I got it back, it was doing the same thing. It cycles and shuts off once the stylus sets down on the record. When I called him to inform him, he refused to answer. When I called from a different number, he answered. As soon as he found out it was me, he said just a minute and put me on hold and never came back on the phone. No matter how many times I called, he refuses to accept responsibility. He talks well. He seems like a nice reputable guy. I even got him special audio cables that made the table sound a whole lot better. But... This is not even the same turntable I sent him. Mine was beautiful without a mark on it. Now I am trying to find somebody to fix what I have.

If you can leave a message, either by phone or email, you may want to mention how AudioKarma members like to know who does good work, and see if that elicits a response.
After that, exposing someone by name who doesn't do right is fair game, and helps everyone else avoid him.

If you can prove the table you got back wasn't the same one as you sent, sue, it's attempted fraud.
I wish there was a way that I could legally prove it. The original owner is the only person I can think of who might be able to do so. They live a great distance away and it would be a long shot.
I know the truth. I have to do a better job instead of just trusting people. The guy seen like he was a guru. I believe I pissed him off when I asked him to pay for the return shipping. I also should have been calling him once a week so he knows I am closely following the way he handles my TT. I was trying not to be a worry wart.

I will do that, but, he does not reply. I would not wish this on anyone; not to mention an Audiophile. I am a Veteran an this Quad System is part of my life. I can't understand people today, especially when you open up to them and let them know how much it means to me. Thanks!

Sorry to hear of your bad transaction. I suppose you don't have the serial number of the original unit? It is always a good idea to take photos of a piece before you send it out.

It seems many AKers have been happy with Bill at FixMyDual for service and restoration work. Perhaps that would be where you want to send it.

Mr Pig;

Wow, Oh my, you know of this guy!!! That's the guy that did this! When I saw the Fix my Dual name, I thought that it was cool. A real piece of work...he is. lol Amazing that you know about him.
Please, is there anybody else you know of. I will never trust that guy again. He really hurt me. This was an important piece to purchase for me. My turntable is like an old friend.

I have all the original paperwork that came with the TT. I will look for the serial # on the registration card. That should match what is on the box. I no longer have the box now. I am going to contact the original owner also.

Notransistors (Seth) on AK here is in NY and has a great reputation here.
Thanks captouch;

I looked him up on the net and found him. I got a phone # and he did not answer when I called. I left a message and he called me back. He seems like a great guy. I have to admit, I am a little afraid still. However, I will give it one more try. He gave me some good pointers. I will let you know how it works out. He said he could have it done by this fall. That is great because the outside temp will be better for shipping.

Hey captouch, thanks for the lead. You rock!

I have just been apprised of this thread. It would not be proper to comment. The only thing I can say is that turntables really should be shipped in cooler weather. A box with a turntable within can bake in a UPS or Fedex truck for days. This can cause the cue damping paste to run out of its tube, effectively eliminating cue damping. Ask how I know this.

All I can say is ---I have dealt with Bill before and he gave my turntable a quick turn around with a quality overhaul.

The claim is that the turntable sent to the repairer was not the same as that returned. If true, that amounts to fraud.

Not going to comment either way. This thread belongs in Feedback with only person's involved with the plantiff/defendant commenting.

If this was not a AK enlisted service then it has no place in feedback as that is only for Barter Town deals, not outside deals.

Jim

Hello Jim,
I am not clear about your actions. I do not want to operate outside of the rules. I respect your position on AK. Please note when I joined this forum. I was drawn to this forum because of the support. It is not a perspective. The truth is the same for everybody. I want the truth to be known. Perhaps you could ask me did I learn about this character from the AK forum? I hope you, as a mod, to please not assume. Ask me. People should know what happened to me.

I want to be a good member. If I have behaved improper, please provide me an explanation so I may know the facts as you know them.
Kindest Regards,
bezaleel
