Dual 1237 automatic arm function

Hi, just acquired a very clean Dual 1237. Sounds great! However, the tone arm doesn’t travel to the lp when using the automatic function. It lifts, travels maybe half the distance to the lp and the stops, pauses, and then travels back to the resting position and stops. I have tried “resetting” it with the tone arm in locked position. Anyone know what to do to to try to fix this issue? Thx

Look at the STEUERPIMPLE. It is the first thing I look at when I find a DUAL, and the tonearm behaves badly. The video is in German, but will show what to look for. A real easy fix.

^^as above. :)

Just about every second thread here re Dual turntables brings up steuerpimpels. If you search you will see lots of discussion and suggestions.

Ok, great! I’ll dig into it. Thx for the input. I’ll post again after I check it out. Btw, would that affect the stacker spindle functionality?

Welcome to AK. As said above^^^^. The stuerpimple is likely bad. Had a later Dual, a 601 where it crumbled off. Dries out. Done dozens of these on 1219 and 1229s. The 601 was a practice unit as it was a belt drive. Wanted to see the difference between a 601 with a belt and earlier Dual's. It was actually easier than a 1219. Found the old one in pieces in its enclosed wood base. At some point a good cleaning and relube should be done. Lots of posts here on this. Good luck

Eric
