Dual 1264 clip spring question

I have been through it with this cursed turntable, but I am being called by a higher power to get it fully restored. It’s quite an abusive relationship I have with this deck. The current issue I am facing is that the clip spring is missing which I hope is the reason I can’t switch from 33 to 45 speed. I’ve already replaced the control knob as it was busted.

I’m curious if any of you extremely smart people would know if this clip spring on this eBay listing for a dual 506 is comparable in size shape and quality to the actual clip spring part number 260 570 in the service manual for the 1264. I did find the exact clip spring but it’s on a German website and I’d rather not deal with long shipping times, a higher price, and customs. I saw a YouTube video of a completely different model 522 and this whole mechanism seems almost identical to what’s in mine. I’ll link that below as well.

If the drive belt is too tight it’ll keep the arm/guide to move the belt to different positions on the drive pulley. Take the belt off and see if the arm/guide moves properly
 
thanks for the tip - either way - the clip spring is missing. so nothing is going to happen without that. i do see what youre saying about that white belt guide moving without the belt in there - thats a great tip and thats how ill probably start the troubleshooting after install. the belt i ordered was on ebay and had lots of reviews from dual owners, so i do believe the belt is as tight as it should be. once i replaced the belt, a lot of the problems i had with the tonearm not returning to its resting position and such were cleared up.

do you have any insight into the size of the 506 clip spring vs the 1264? i cant imagine they would be different...maybe im wrong.
 
Clip spring worked for the most part. But speed control is unreliable. You really have to flick the knob for it to change speeds. Im curious if im Missing something. I feel like the tension of the clip spring isn’t great enough to “pop” the guide I to place. Also this one connected mechanism seems to need coaxing to move but it’s the slightest amount mod pressure to move it. Hence, flicking the knob quickly. Any ideas?
 
in case anyone is following along. the clip spring did fix the issue of the speed control switch not engaging the mechanisms, but after installation and cleaning the old grease, the functionality of the speed control was "less than reliable." the issue is that the belt will not slip into the correct position unless you really flip the switch with some gusto. sometimes it takes 2-3 toggles of the switch back and forth to get it to the correct position/speed. that being said - i found another thread on here that deduced that non thakker made dual belts tend to be too wide, too tight, and generally not reliable and predictable for the very sensitive ecosystem of the workings of the turntable. i did, in fact, purchase my belt on ebay and it was labeled as a dual 1264 belt - however it did fit pretty snug. i could see how too much tension would make it harder for the belt to slip up and down the motor. im hoping the thakker belt as well as the speed control belt conclude my saga with restoring this turntable to a 100% operational state.


i also want to plug a guy named alex from end to end audio - he has a shop on etsy and a website i believe. i asked him to fabricate me some custom dual rca cables, and he sent over a prototype that sound simply AMAZING. when i did the installation, i quickly saw that whomever owned this turntable previously cut the rca wires a few inches off the terminal and then spliced new rca on those and didnt even bother to insulate any of it properly. so there was a NASTY hum coming off this thing. now its dead silent unless the stylus on the groove. if you hit him up - make sure you let him know BMS/chris sent ya. he just added these to his lineup of product offerings and they were reasonably prioced for the premium quality of the wires. whole heartedly recommend.

either way - ill update again after these belts arrive from from the motherland.
 
Belts arrived. I purchased a Thakker belt and a pitch control belt. Wouldn’t you know that this solved the problem. The speed control knob works flawlessly. EVERY TIME. and the pitch control knob doesn’t “slip” anymore. This thing is working 1000% percent now. Not a single function or lever or knob or auto feature doesn’t work as it’s supposed to. I’m probably $270 all in on this deck which included $140 of being scammed by shady repair people. But I preserved and I would not have done it without my good friend LEECH666. thank you for all your help and to everyone else who provided feedback. This project is DONE.
