Dual 510.. a good first turntable?

Hello, I am new to this world of Hi-Fi and I am currently looking in to buying my first turntable. So I've found a Dual 510 online (has to be shipped) for 50 bucks (depending on other bids), the guy says it's old and hasn't been used for many years though that it worked just fine last time he used it. From what I've read on other threads 50 bucks would be a good deal for this table. I am willing to do some work on it as long as it doesn't require to much money.

Could anyone tell me if I should go for it? And also their opinions on the system?

Very good sounding table, belt drive. You will probably need a new belt, (LPGear). Also request seller, take platter off and pack separately, TT deck has transit screws, make sure they are screwed down, tone arm is secured with twist tie, Head shell wrapped separately.
I know I bought one on the bay, it almost was destroyed in shipping.
If seller won't agree, then find one who does. Or check CL and check with us on what comes up
 
The Dual 510 is a great table. Semi-automatic, so you don't need to babysit the end of the play. If you treat it well it will last. They are silent, and fairly easy to work on. The only automation is the auto lift. It has a strobe for speed adjustment. Make sure you have a decent cartridge.

What Cartridge should I get if I don't have a lot of money to spend? I read some good stuff about the AT-95E, and that price range is probably the max.
Preferably, I'd like to go cheaper even though I am guessing the word cheaper is against the audiophile moto xD
 
I'd avoid shipping if at all possible. Too many opportunities to end up with a broken piece of junk when you open the box.

I love cheaper. Audio Technica CN5625AL is about as cheap as they come for a cart that won't chew up your records. The AT95E is supposed to be worth the extra $ though.

If you buy a used table it will likely come with a decent cart of some sort. Then all you might need is a new stylus.
 
Yeah, I will check my local thrift shop, found nothing on the Swedish version of craigslist. Though I don't really think I'll find one there.
