One of the Duals I have is a 714 that also has a CH6 lid. When acquired, it cost $5 and functioned perfectly, even had a Shure M95 cartridge installed with a good factory needle. I did not necessarily need that turntable but could not ignore the bargain price.
I moved twice since owning it and am now in a much smaller city, quite far from the big city I left. The dwelling I am now in is quite small. Space is a problem, so I began leaving various stereo gear, bit by bit, at a record store in a nearby town. I would leave turntables there two at a time and they all sold but not the 714. It languished on the shelf so I advised the shop owner to begin using it as the "store turntable" to play the records used for background music. He successfully used that strategy with others I left with him.
That owner sold the business and introduced me to the new one. A few weeks afterwards I stopped in and the new owner said that as she was reorganizing the store, she saw that the 714's lid had some damage. Still functional but a chunk of the right side had broken off. I retrieved the turntable in order that I could replace the lid. She was willing to pay until I informed her later how much a replacement would be. If one could be found, it's cost would be close to the asking price of the 714.
In the past, it was not often that I needed a dustcover but when I did, I had no trouble finding a used one for $10 or so, or having a replacement made at a plastics shop. The last time one I had fabricated, was $70 but it was for a fairly scarce turntable.
Where I live now, the nearest fabricator would be at least 4 hours away by car and used CH6 lids online now cost an inordinate amount of money - well north of $100. So this 714 shall not be getting a new cover anytime soon.
