Dual 604 - No sound

Hello, I have a dual 604 that is using a shure m97 as a carttidge. When plugged into the phono jacks on my receiver, there is no sound. I have checked continuity from the cartridge mount to the rca cables and everything is fine. Any ideas as to why there is no sound? The receiver im using is an onkyo tx-3000 so i assume a phono preamp is not needed. Thank you for any and all help, im ready to hear this lady purr!

It's unlikely but possibly the cartridge has failed. Measure each side of that with the ohm meter and you should get something similar on each side. Not sure what it is supposed to be for that cartridge but something in the several hundred range.

Also, does the amp work with other sources? Tuner, cd player, phone? They course would go to something other than the phono input. Maybe you have a tape/source switch in the wrong position?

Thanks for the advice, the cartridge is brand new, but I will give it a shot. How are you suggesting I get a reading from the cart with the ohm meter? Where do i touch the poles?

Also, I did connect rca to aux cables and tested with an ipod on all the inputs, and each input worked fine, so the source of the problem is most likely the cart or cables on the table

The M97 should read about 1550 ohms across each side. That would be red to green and white to blue.

More likely to be the problem on a Dual is the headshell sled contacts. You should remove the cartridge holder and gently clean them. Try a Qtip with alcohol for now. Reinstall and try again.

Duals are pretty notorious for doing this. At the base of the tonearm (accessible from the underside IIRC) is a circuit board. The leads that either go to the board or from the board become brittle with age and often break.
