Here are two very different turntable almost brand new with practically unused cartridges and stylus.

1. Dual 604 with original OBM 20 cartridge, unused for year and cleaned recently by a stereo shop before I received it.

2. Technics SL-D202 with original Shure M70 EJ cartridge and stylus ( practically brand new ), still in the glass Technics rack along with an unused Technics cassette deck.

I got the Technics this Sunday, it has an absolutely immaculate clear clean cover and turntable. My sister saw it and decided that she prefers it to the Dual 604 which I had picked out for her. Just as well, because my wife likes the Dual 604.

Which would you pick?

Well, I had a Dual 510 and replaced it with an SL-D202. I still have the 202 as a back-up to my MMF-7. The Technics still works flawlessly after 30 years. It's dead silent, the tonearm friction is very low with no play. The Dual was always developing a hum in the headshell contacts which caused me to dump it.

To me, it's like the different between German cars and Japanese cars. Sure the Japanese cars are reliable, but the German cars are cool. I'd choose the Dual.
