Dual 721

I noticed the Dual 721 on local craigslist. It has something odd looking bolt on it. Do you know what might it be?

Looks like the remain/base of a stylus cleaner.

Nothing is supposed to be in that spot, it is probably just a sticker, looks a bit like a BBS wheel.

I might check this one out. What should I check to make sure it's working properly?

I would make sure all the auto features work, holds speed, though a cleaning would be due. I had to replace the IC's on mine.

It came with the Audio-Technica CS-112SII cartridge. Is it good one?



All the auto features works and it holds speed well. I have one issue. The stylus set down maybe one groove too far inside. I tried to adjust but the adjustment screw did not move. I did not want force it and break it.

That will take an Audio Technica AT12S stylus, which is superb. I use one. Not cheap but very detailed.

Dual 721 has two antiskating options, Conical or Elliptical stylus. I choose the Elliptical, right?

That is correct.

There is also a CD-4 setting, use that for the Shibata stylus.

You can download the user manual on vinyl engine. It will give you the information there, the table had a lot of nice functions to it

The 721 is a very respectable Dual table. I have a 1219, 1228 and a 1229 and would like to add a 721 to the stable. Congratulations!

Well, the 721 has indeed three AS-Scales, and for the Shibata-Stylus I would recommend the CD4 setting.
