Dual CS 1268 low rumble

Ignoring all the reasons not to start trying to rehab an aged plastic turntable, I started to fix up a Dual CS 1268.

After an initial belt replacement and new stylus in the original Ortofon ULM cart it seemed to be doing pretty well with manual operation. I primarily tested it using headphones. As I began to troubleshoot some of the other issues it is having, it has begun to have a low, feedback-like rumble in the woofers when played through speakers at moderate volume. The woofers begin to vibrate wildly like the test cd from looneytunesrick's refoam kits.

I know I need to find or fabricate a replacement steuerpimpel, but I assume this would not be causing this issue.

Any suggestions on what to look for?

I did recap the motor control as once it did start spinning backwards.

Placement.

Your turntable is not isolated from the speakers adequately. It's too close or on a surface that is influenced by the low frequency vibration from the speakers. You need to move things around, looking for ways to isolate the table such as a more solid floor or furniture or perhaps wall mounting.
