Dual Steuerpimpel. Where to buy?

Hello,

I've seen many threads on the Dual steuerpimple and many references to buying quality ones from a "Ron". Don't know if this Ron is an AK member.

Quite frustrating when there is a mention of someone and then no user name or link to find this person. This is an all too often occurrence.

Anyway enough ranting. Looking for a source that offers quality steuerpimples. I have a 1249 model.

Thanks!

I made my own from 14 gage solid copper wire insulation. My only issue was getting the length correct. Do not buy the Chinese pimples, they didn't fit, too loose.

Thanks jcamero. I was sent a video earlier and 14 gauge insulation is what they used as well.

I hear you. However, it's a rule on Audio Karma that links for shops etc that sell products are not allowed unless you are a paying sponsor. I can tell you that I was recently a beta tester on a new seller of steuerpimpels and was quite happy with them as well as the idler wheels I bought from them at full retail.

I've also bought from eBay vendors, some of which were very good and others kind of sucked. From a DIY perspective the wire insulation mentioned works ok but I have preferred my method of using 2mm ID silicone tubing. I bought a meter or 2 of it and it will last a very long time.

Insulation is not really a viable solution, as it is opened on both ends.
A solution is to do what I did.
Got a bag of 100 really good ones from Germany.
And even when going this route, one needs to be careful.
Do not buy any described as ERSATZ.
Code word for china.

Thanks Montycat and NoTransistors.

I did wonder about the insulation open end. All this is good food for thought. Did not know about those AK rules on the selling of products...sorry.

On VE I read someone mentioning an upper steuerpimple on the 1249? Also, looking through the service manual, unless I've gone blind, I do not see any part labeled as a steuerpimple.

The 'upper' pimple is a dot of plastic that caps the lift pin.
Sometimes, I replace it with something less slippery if anti-skate makes the arm slide when being lowered.
It is the details that count in a repair, would you not say?

Another question for those in the know on Dual's. I still have a tonearm issue. I haven't taken the tonearm apart yet and fear the "deering ring" (as I've heard it called) is broken.

Just as the steuerpimple (guide) is not named that in the service manual, what part name is the "deering ring" in the manual?
