Dual turntable Capacitors

Anyone know a source or a mpdern replacement for the capacitors commonly found in dual turntables?

The 5 series has 3 rectangular caps.
The 12 series has a single cap that looks like a vintage hard candy.

Are they bipolar or can one just use common electrolytic capacitors of the same value?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

They are safety capacitors.
Some are labelled with a X, some with an Y, and they are designed to fail in different ways.
So where a X capacitor sits, replace with another X capacitor with the same capacitairy value and at least the same or higher voltage. For the Y capacitors the same procedure.

X - from line to neutral
Y - from line or neutral to ground
Usuallly used in combo with a varistor to suppress spikes.

Sorry, but that is wrong, due to being much too generalised. For example, check and compare the service manuals for the 504, the 510, the 506, the 506-1, the 530 and the 503-2. And there are differences between different 12ers, too. In fact, there can even be differences in some 12ers with one and the same model number - cause some of the 12ers exist in variants with 110 V(AC) and with 12 V(AC) motor.

Most are bipolar (of which some should nowadays at least be X2 type safety caps), some aren't, depending on the specific models.

Thanks. I have about a dozen that I have fully functioning, but have not considered changing the capacitors in, until a 506 started spinning backwards while testing.

So far 601 with the sm840 and the 506 with the backwards spin are the only units I have encountered with circuit troubles.
 
I might be able to help you out with the safety caps. I have a couple of bulk packages that I bought a few years ago specifically for Dual turntables and will never need them all.

However I won't be at home for about 2 weeks (travelling in Atlantic Canada right now) and I don't know the values either. We can talk late this month if you want.
 
Don't they make both XY caps combined now?

In which sense? I.e., are you referring to integrated combinations of X and Y type safety caps (typically 1x X plus 2x Y) - or rather individual safety caps, that fulfill both X and Y type requirements? The answer would be yes for both cases.

P.S.: And btw, yet another variant are integrated RC combinations with a safety cap (typically X type) and a resistor for current limiting. As one may already guess, these are foremost intended as arc suppressors/snubbers for use in parallel to mains switches.

Those Dual models, that use the little PCB with the three X type safety caps (1 in parallel to the mains switch plus two, that create the phase shift for the secondary winding of the SM100/SM100-1 motor), dont require such a combination, though - 'cause along with the caps, the mains switch and the drop-down resistor for ca. 230 V use the board also sports a little inductor/choke (L1) for that purpose.
