I had some old Realistics with wasted surrounds that I didn't want to put any money into, so I tried this just to see if the handyman's secret weapon could pull through again; for the most part it does. You can hear a little rattle at times, but much better than no surround at all. I don't have any, but gorilla tape would probably work better.

If anything I thought you guys would get a laugh out of this.

Hmm, I have some junk speakers around:scratch2:and this gives me an idea:D

Gaffers tape works too... and looks better.

But duct tape has a nice comic effect that nothing else will give you. Good for a laugh or two with your audio buddies.
 
But seriously folks...

Those look like Minimus 7's or 77's to me. The 7's use a rubber surround, so generally they're not in need of a refoam, and I haven't personally had to redo a pair.

I have done 77's though, and although it's not perfect, you can get the 5" surrounds from MAT electronics and refoam them so they'll sound better than in their current condition....:D

You know if you want to do that right replacement surrounds for that small a driver would only be a about 15 dollars and a couple of hours work, well worth it to get the speaker sounding as good as new IMO.
 
They are 77's, and yes the 7's are rubber. I have a pair of those as well, the bass response of both are about the same. I don't use these much, that's why I haven't sprung for the refoam kit. Maybe sometime in the future.
 
You guys know how to scare the hell out of someone. Probably makes them sound a bit tinny
 
I didn't expect to get this much response, I did expect some to be amused, some irritated, some both.

The point was you can marginally fix anything with duct tape, Lowest-fi and tintfull!:lmao:

And I didn't find any surround kits for that price either.
