Dumb idea?

Currently, I am VERY speaker deprived. I'm running a pair of AR TSW-100s and thats my only set of speakers currently. They sound alright I guess, but very lacking in bass. I found these cheapo Phillips speakers that belong to a mini-stereo and they dont sound to bad, well the lows don't.

A friend of mine, suggested, tucking these two phillips speaks into a little compartment in my tv stand, and use the for primary bass. I did so, and it does sound OK. but the poor 6.5in woofers in the Phillips are trying to put out mid freqs too.

Anyway, what would I have to do to eliminate the woofers from putting out the mid frequencies?

I know this may be a really simple stupid question, but to me its all new.

Hey, you work at a thrift store! Check the old consoles inside the speaker area. Many will have crossovers. One line in and three out would be great. Then you could hook up some midrange horns too. I stop my local thrift at leats twice a week. Better yet, PM me your address and I'll send you a killer set of old fisher crossovers and some Kenwood midrange horns. That way no one will get mad at me for telling you to kill a console. I'm trying to spring clean the cave. Have Fun, Jay :music:
 
Hmm I really should edit my profile. I USED to work at a thrift store. lol I kind of figured Id need a crossover, and though I know what they do, and how they work, I havent the slightest clue on how to make one, or what one would even look like.

I just really started getting into audio equipment a few months ago. To me a mini-stereo used to be THE thing to have... :tears:
 
Probably a dumb comment on my part, but have you inspected the woofer surrounds. The 6 1/2" woofer may not be bass heavy, but if the surrounds are gone you would have a loss of the bass you would have.

You might try finding a used set a thrift or a sub woofer at a pawn shop, Sub woofers a easy to find and not to high. If you can get a powered sub you can dial it in to suit your taste.

Did you drop the idea of resurrecting the Kenwood boxes you found?
 
Nope, thats still a very live idea. But until I get some cash to start the resurrection, I need to have some sort of sound.
