Dumb question about my cork mat...

Hi everyone. Complete noob here. I just picked up one of those Music Hall cork mats for my technics 1700. Here's the dumb question: Do I put it on top of the stock black rubber mat, or do I remove the stock rubber mat and put the cork one in its place?
I'm thinking I do the latter but I don't quite know :stupid:
