Dumb question - record skips on most turntables except...

I have a Archie Bell and the Drells record that looks VG+. I see almost nothing wrong with it in the light. I can only get it to play without skips on my Fons CQ 30 with a Grace 707 tonearm and a Shure V15 Type III with a Jico NeoSAS stylus. It skips on every other turntable except the Fons. It skips on other conical, elliptical, and hyper-elliptical styli. Yet, it plays perfectly on the Fons.

Can someone help me understand why it skips on the others. Thanks!

Are the other tables running such high compliance cartridges with low mass arms? Think of it in terms of riding over bumps in a car with a stiff suspension vs one with a soft ride, the stiff suspension can tend to skitter around on rough roads.

I've found my Grace G707 / F8-C combination track just about anything I throw at it, and I have some pretty awful old albums warped beyond what some tables would be happy playing.

Yes and no. It skips some and has some pops on the Systemdek IIX turntable with Profile arm & Shure V15 Type IV Jico SAS stylus. The Elac Miracord 50H with the Stanton 600A cannot even to play the first track. It skips a little on a Technics SL Q2 with an Ortofon OM10.
 
Could be a combination of the depth that particular stylus rides in the groove & alignment could also be slightly off with your other carts. I have experienced similar with different LPs/turntables.
 
Once had a TT that skipped a lot on the first track of a good many thrift store records I bought back in the early 2000's. I got really good at using my thumbnail (cloth covered) to fix the skips. I'm guessing mostly debris in the grooves that I removed.

Anyway ... bought a new TT and that stopped. Fast forward some years latter ...started playing the old TT in a new house and it never skipped like it used too. Go figure. New house with better floors ... new cartridge I had installed? ... etc :dunno:

factors include platform isolation, feedback from speakers, dirty records, arm and cartridge
mass mismatch or ...
 
Which album? Tighten Up? Mono or stereo? I was lucky to find a pristine British collection that had a stereo version back in 1982. Taped it using a Revox high speed 1/4 track machine and MA 2002e. WHFS-FM in Bethesda Md - Thanks!!
 
I don't know if a Grace 707 can be fitted with a fluid damper, but for me, using a SME 3009 type 2 improved with a type 3 fluid damper, most all skipping problems went away. this is with MA 2002e, Denon 301, and finally a Grace F9e super. This includes the 1st generation Telarc 1812 which was known to throw carts across the room when the cannons started.
BTW - the STEREO version of that LP is pretty rare.
 
One of the greatest tunes ever. I believe Archie Bell got drafted (this was the Viet Nam era) just about the time they were poised to hit it big, and by the time he got back it was probably too late. One of the big disappointments for me was his come back attempt, 'Tighten Up at the Disco', which I thought would a howl, assuming it would be a disco version of the Tighten Up. Alas, no such luck.
