Dumb radio antenna question

My brother asked me this and I don't know the answer because I'm not a radio guy. The only reason that I ever turn my tuner on is because I like the way it lights up the front of the receiver!

On the card that came with my 2000X is tells me that;

The black bar on the back is for local AM reception
There is a single "input" for an AM roof antenna for distant reception.

There are also 75ohm and 300ohm dual inputs for FM.

Am I correct in assuming that with such a unit if I hookup a roof antenna to the single AM input that is for distant reception it will also help me get better local, AM reception?

yes. Any antenna hooked up to the antenna terminal will help local and distant reception.

I doubt a roof antenna is going to give better am reception. It was designed for uhf/vhf and fm reception. A long single wire would most likely do a better job for am.

If you hook a roof antenna to a stereo or anything electronic for that matter, the lead should be grounded with a pass through grounding block. Otherwise it's like running a lightening rod right into your house. Not safe!
