DVP-S9000ES on its way to me

newzealand

Super Member
i purchased a very clean unit in full working cond,
im hoping it will be a nice experience for me,im going to pair it up with my str-da777es and a ja555es,
it should look nice,
the reason for the purchase is that i purchased another item ,its a str-av880 ,since that matches the cd player i use daily ,which is a cdp-302es ,
this is why i have just got a dvp-s9000es,
im wondering if there will be a difference in sound quality ?,im also keen to try out the sacd section in this player,
i will use it for dvds also,im thinking it might be as good as my play station 3,ill still need play station for blue ray and games lol
any in put would be helpful(good or bad news)

oh the str-av880 will be in my spare room set ,you got to love the 80s look lol ,way to many buttons ,
but at 110watts per channel its a powerful little unit, it pushes the ar48 speakers nicely

It’s a very nice sounding player, but tends to have trouble reading the SACD layer of hybrid SACDs after awhile.

So you may wish to preserve the laser by not using it for common DVD playback.

hmmmm i just looked at the auction site used in the u s a ,it seems i can buy a new laser ,would it be a good idea to get a few as not to bad price?they may very well run out one day im thinking,

Yes, it also sounds very good with normal CD’s. I’m sure you’ll be happy with the player.

ok, its here,
its playing all formats,cd,dvd,sacd
im about to fit it in my system
ill keep you posted on the difference between the cdp-302es

well,
its a bit brighter but not really, just detail in the very high end, tighter bass ,
also has a different feel to the quiet passages it seems ,
its very clear ,i like it alot, ill be on the look out for a second now for parts i guess ,
i may buy a spare laser off that auction site ,im going to check the hours on the unit once i get new cables for the projector
ill report back

Glad to hear you like it so far. Mine had a lot of hours on it when I bought it (though I got it for cheap off CL). If I recall, I did buy a spare laser for it, aftermarket, not OEM though. Since mine still plays, just most often not the SACD layer of hybrids, I’ve been hesitant to get into it and risk messing things up as it plays everything else okay.

If/when CD’s or single layer SACD’s fail to play, I’ll bite the bullet and give it a shot.

BTW, there’s an internal calibration menu. I don’t have the instructions to access that now, but it should be available out there on how to get to it if you don’t already have the how-to on how to access it.

Congratulation!! Glad to hear you are enjoying it!

I really like mine despite the fact that it is a victim of the issue involving hybrid SACD’s.

now im on the hunt for the matching DAT player :)
i have always wanted one of those but i guess it will only get looked at most the time like my ja-555es mini disc player,
im sure one will pop up soon
