Dynaco A-25/35 or KLH Model 17...and why?

for what they are, and coming out of 2 year seldom used bedroom duty semi retirement and field-run the last 10 days
on a few different amps I use front of house
but they cant compare to Infinities in any category but slightly smaller size.
and with 3 top notch recessed hangar clips on the back.
Perhaps THE most hung-on-the-wall everyday speaker ever made some say.
Though away from wall they certainly sound best.

are going back line, rear-of-room shelf with the Mission surrounds on top again.. Mission's a fine speaker too!

A25's have their niche places,
and nice that a small 15 watt Scott tuber will push them nicely.

They sound especially good with smooth Luxman amps I found, that can drive them past their modest 50 watt rating.
You would be surprised how hard you can power a Dynaco just to the edge of distortion and amps never gets warm.
And the Dynaco won't croak. or blow a driver.

The dynacos maintain a 7 ohm impedance throughout the audio spectrum according to the literature I read. Probably why the amps never strain and they sound so good. Only speakers besides my Audes soult that my wife said are keepers.
 
The Dynaco's are very easy to drive. I have a Advent 300, Sherwood 7100, Pioneer SX-424, KLH 71 and other similar size receivers that work well enough to fill an average size family room.
I think it's important to remember the Dynaco was remarkable for what it was at the time. And sold over a million copies. It was a price item speaker that sounded remarkably good for price, size, appearance and simplicity. And still does. I find it's fidelity limits to be within range of any use short of just sitting and listing to equipment. For listening to music it's a very impressive little box. I just don't pick it to death. I have no plans to sell mine.

That's what I am looking for...something nice and musical that I can have on all day. And if I feel the need to give them a little extra every now and then, they won't complain.

Just saw an ad for 2 pair of AR 4x and 1 pair of AR 3s for $100. The cabs show a little rough but he'll gladly demo.

If that is the same ad I saw, it is for 2 pair of AR-4X and an ADVENT 3 (not AR3). All for $100. If not for Hurricane Florence bearing down and a 5 hour round-trip, I would have picked them up already. That is a good deal if they are even half-way working.

Good catch with the Advents. Haven't checked today to see if they've been snagged.
 
We fled the Charleston area due to the storm. When perusing the home market yard and estate it's usually slim pickings. I end up 30 miles west of Asheville and I go to two separate places; 1st a dirty little thrift store that has only 2 things of interest, and they are working. A Hitachi FT 340 tuner and a Kenwood KA-3500 amp connected to some bigazz speakers. Both worked just fine. Price of $230 for everything. The owner wasn't there so I couldn't find out if I could make a deal with out the speakers.

The 2nd was a local small auction house and see a Nakamichi Dragon, 2 different pairs of Quad ESL speakers, a straight and a model 63 (these with seqential ser #), Revox B790 tt, Revox B77 rtr, Dual CS 508 tt, Crown PSL-2 preamp, & a Crown DC300A Amp!!!!!!!!!!

In one little country auction house!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTH!!!!!!!!!

Gonna try Monday for the Crown pieces.
 
Well today my impatience, the absense of Dynacos here and back home along with a demo of some KLH 17s at a local (while storm-dodging) hifi shop (Classic Audio & Vinyl in Hendersonville, NC), I'm the proud owner of some nice vintage speakers.

I can't wait to get back to the homestead to hook them up.

The Asheville NC area seems filled with good quality vintage equipment. That is where I got my Dynaco A25 speakers this past Spring. They were worth the 3 hour round-trip drive for me.

My wife is from Hendersonville and her Mom has a place in Brevard where we stay when we come up here. I might have to come up here more often, ya know, to spend more quality in-law time.:)

I figured that getting the Model 17s now and picking up a pair of the Dynacos when available is better than just waiting for something that could take a while.
