GRS A25-10

Has anyone here taken the plunge on the Parts Express GRS A25-10 replacement woofer for the A-25? It's a new item, and the reviews are few and all over the place. Just wondering if there is a bit of local knowledge here.

Also, anyone with GRS speaker experience in general?

I recently replaced the badly damaged original woofers and tweeters in a friend's A-25s with those GRS speakers from partsexpress.

When I fired them up I thought "Yup, those sound like Dynaco A-25s".

The screw holes are different but it was a relatively straightforward swap. Better this way I thought than taking the chance on parted out speaker components from auction sites. At least we know these are new and haven't been abused.

It was a fairly expensive way to go but I came away impressed with them and he is really pleased with the outcome.

I appreciate the feedback. I need to order some parts for a cross-over from Parts Express, so I am going to give the woofer a shot as well. Which A-25 did you use it on - the top or bottom vent version?

Bottom vent. They are also not a mirror image pair.

I just spoke with the owner this weekend and he said he thinks the sound is opening up a bit with use. He is very happy with the way they sound. Very warm, rich and non-fatiguing, just like Dynaco A-25s should be.

I have a single, orphan A-25 that I'm considering building a mate for if I can't find another single one. Part of me wants to use the GRS parts just to hear how they would do in a pair with the original SEAS drivers. Might be a fun experiment!

Yes, because PE is selling a replacement tweeter as well - thats a great idea, especially if you or someone close has the equipment to take measurements.

I have a pair of A25 speakers, one with a blown woofer. Thinking about this new drop-in replacement option but wondering about the impedance spec. My original is labeled as an 8ohm, while the GRS replacement is 6ohm. Any issue with this?

I think that's the least of your worries. The 10db peak at ~2.7kHz is a huge problem. That's going to sound bad.

I'd be looking for an original working woofer as a replacement.

I'm guessing the original woofer didn't have that peak at 2.7KHz. Thanks for the info Jeff. I was reluctant to go with the aftermarket replacement. I'll wait until I find an original orphan woofer.

IF anyone compares the GRS replacement to an original I'd be curious to know if the GRS is more or
less efficient.
