Dynaco A10 & A25 Garage Sale Scores

Here's a pic of the newly acquired Dynaco a25 compared to the A10. I only Pictured one because of the hassle disconnecting the A10's from my son's room. The A25's are keepers for sure. Two pairs of Dynaco's for under $20 makes you feel like you're on a good Karma streak for sure. These things are soooooo sweet!

The A10's sound pretty good, but the A25's kick it up a notch. I can see why the sold so many. For under $100, you could have some sweet speakers back in the day.

Per pair? Or per SPEAKER?

By the way, what's the difference between the A25 and the A25XL?

I do want a pair of these. They could turn out to be the one 2-way speaker I love. From what I've read, they're supposed to be warm and ultra-smooth. Lot's of vibe. Strong, smooth bass. Kind of like the Big Daddy Kane of vintage 10" speakers.

I could easily live with my A25's and nothing else. Mine benefitted from recapping and securing the woofer screws. New binding posts also helped.

But I enjoyed them for a long time as is.

I'm going to keep them, Anyone know where to find new fabric for the grills? The cloth is dirty, dirty, dirty. I think that if I cleaned the cloth, it might fall apart.

My suggestion is to try to clean the grills first, but only because I've wasted a lot of time looking for a close match to this fabric myself. And if you do try to clean them make sure you completely remove the cloth first-- I've heard these grills bleed purplish-black at the slightest hint of moisture, which is definitely not going to help your problem.
I've put a lot of thought into exactly how I'm going to clean my A25 grills, one of these days, but so far I've been too busy listening to bother; hey, it's only been four or five years.
All you need to do, Mr Muller, is center yourself between left and right speakers, and direct your gaze toward your amplifier. Grills? What grills? Boy, that sure is one nice looking amplifier.
Congratulations, by the way.

Brad,

I have just gone through the slightly laborious process of removing the cloths, soaking in hot bleach & laundry soaped water, and finally a light scrub with a soft brush. Lather, rinse, repeat. The cloths have come out much cleaner, but still perhaps show a touch of aging...?

I'd post pictures but they are hanging dry now. I'll be using leftover glue from my speaker refoam job to re-adhere the cloth to wood. BTW, you cloths are in much nicer shape than mine...I found an old curtain at a Salvation Army last month, so I bought it to use as a new cloth, it looks great. However, the curtain was a bit too thick and it's now impossible to re-fit the grill, so I've gone through with the cleaning/scrubbing as of today.

Cheers,

THC

Good work!

I picked up a pair of A25s a couple of years ago. Very impressive & nice sounding speakers.

I shipped them out to an AK pal who had been looking for a pair for a long time.

There is nothing like hitting genuine paydirt when out on the warpath!

You'll likely have better luck, with your query, by starting a new topic rather than posting in a totally unrelated thread.

Not trying to bash on you, but what you've done is considered bad etiquette on web forums and known as Thread-Jacking. We've all pretty much been there, done that, got the t-shirt so don't feel badly about it. Just learn something from it. Also, please don't post the same question in multiple sub-forums. Your question appears not only in this thread, but also in the General Audio Discussion sub-forum. If you post a new topic, in the proper sub-forum, your question will likely be answered in time. Just have a little patience. There are literally thousands of people here with vast knowledge, but most of us do this as a hobby. If there is an answer or opinion to be had, you'll likely get it in time.

Cheers!
Dave

I keep hoping to hit the Dynaco motherload too, but my one pair of A-25s (thanks ekmanning5) has been holding me thus far. Congrats on a great find.
