Dynaco A25 **Help Request**

Have a pair of the Dynaco's that my father in law gave me a few years back. They are simply beautiful both in esthetics and sound. However after they play for 10 minuets or so the develop a slight buzz in the mid range. It's noticeable enough that I'd like to fix it if possible. I'm pretty sure that some of the folks on here know how to diagnose this.

Hoping that it is the capacitor and not the speak voice coil.

I do have a back up pair that I can switch out the woofer but would prefer to keep his speaker in tact for simply sentimental reason.

Thank you all in advance for your help and thoughts with this small issue.

Both of them have the buzz? Odd unless both were subject to abuse, like over powering bass. Since you have backups swap one of the woofers and see if it quits. Hopefully it is a crossover component, easy to fix.

Spicer, Just one of them has the buzz/ rattle. They have never been driven hard. Thank you Donny

It could be one of two things:

1) Sometimes the suspension (surround and, less often, the spider) will sag due to gravity over a long time (years). By rotating the driver 180 degrees, puts the force of gravity on the opposite side, counteracting the sag in the suspension. Generally, this takes weeks and months to have a substantial change. If this is an issue, it can often be identified by evenly pressing on the cone while listening for any scraping noise from the voice coil.

2) The Dynaco woofers are known to have a problem with the rivet for the leads coming loose. Pull out the woofer and inspect it, paying particular attention to the electrical connection from the crossover and following the wiring to the cone. See Need help with Dynaco A25's
 
YES, Butyl suspension woofers "SAG" with age.

If you press on the 12 Noon location the buzz should become worse.

Turn the speakers upside down and in a week or so the buzz will go away.

I always Mark them to keep track of what was UP for most of their life.

going upside down is a band-aide.
it means the suspension has deformed.
maybe, maybe, if your lucky a 'refoam' might be a long term fix.
but the spider might also be distorted.
and the paper cones tend to buckle with age too from memory.

thankfully seas have reintroduced a suitable replacement, a26 i think it is.
