Dynaco A25 woofer blown? - Help!

Hey Guys,

Made a previous thread about my A25's, the highs being low/muted on one side and planning a recap. Started to get some distortion from the same speaker and didn't investigate it real close, thought the recap would take care of it. Of course it was the woofer though. Recap and deoxit have taken care of the highs, they are coming through as good as the other cabinet now but getting major distortion from the woofer. I tried all the tricks I could find on other threads, rotate the speaker, check for loose grommets and loose lead wires: all good there. Surrounds are all intact. When I apply even pressure to the cone with all fingers I feel no rubbing but if I use 1 finger and go around the clock positions 1 at a time with light pressure I feel rubbing between about 11 and 6 o'clock positions. Not bad but it is there. Have not tested resistance yet, have digital ohm meter on order.

So is it blown? Look on the bay for replacements? I have the SEAS H336 with the 6 mounting ears. looks like I see a set of them on ebay for $150 right now. So spendy but I really like these speaks and am just so bummed, really want them to work. I run them with an SX-780 that probably needs some testing too but really seems to work and sound fine. Had it for 7 years now with no issues.

Any suggestions? Things to verify with a seller before I pull the trigger on a purchase? From all I can tell there are no new drop in replacements to be found. My recap went well for a newbie I think BTW. Thanks to all the info and research available on this site. You all are great!

Thank you for your time.

Ipnewguy, I have a 3rd A24 that I picked up for the cab, as the pair I have has a badly crushed corner. Let me dig it out of the workshop and check it out, but the drivers are supposed to be in perfect condition. I should be able to check it out tomorrow.

That would be helpful, thanks!

So I have three working A25's. It always amazes me how good they sound, everyone should own a set. IPnewguy, PM me and we will discuss.
